Sitting Right Isn’t the Same as Driving Right

Sitting Right Isn’t the Same as Driving Right

Getting a lowered car to drive as good as it looks

Getting the car sitting right is only half the job.

Whether you're on air, coilovers or running a seriously low static setup, changing the ride height changes the position of the suspension and the angles of the wheels.

That's why geometry matters just as much as getting the height right.

Why does lowering a car affect geometry?

When you lower a car, you're changing where the suspension sits through its normal range of movement.

Depending on the car, that can change camber, toe and other suspension angles. Go low enough and those changes can become pretty significant.

If they're not checked afterwards, you can end up with:

  • Uneven or excessive tyre wear
  • A car that pulls or wanders
  • Poor steering feel
  • Less predictable handling

It might sit exactly how you wanted it to, but that doesn't mean it's finished.

What about air suspension?

With air suspension, you've got another factor to consider: the car can be driven at different heights.

The geometry changes as the suspension moves up and down, so we need to know the height you actually drive the car at.

We set the geometry around your normal driving height, rather than the height the car is aired out at for parking.

That way, the setup is working where it actually matters: on the road.

And really low static cars?

Static cars have their own challenges.

Once a car is significantly lower than standard, getting the geometry where you want it can depend on how much adjustment the factory suspension allows.

In some cases, adjustable arms, top mounts or other suspension components may be needed to achieve the setup you're after.

We'll work with what's fitted to the car and let you know if anything else is needed.

Looks and drivability don't have to be one or the other

A stance setup doesn't automatically have to mean poor handling or ruined tyres.

There will always be compromises when you start pushing ride height and wheel fitment, but good geometry helps make the most of the setup you've chosen.

It's about finding the right balance between how you want the car to sit and how you actually want it to drive.
